Embracing the Flow: My Journey into Marbling Art
Why I Love Experimentation in My Art Practice
My journey into marbling art has been very exciting. Embracing experimentation has always been one of my favourite aspects of my art practice. The thrill of learning something new, seeing how it unfolds, and discovering unexpected outcomes is a constant source of joy for me. Whether it’s textiles, colour, or form, I love pushing the boundaries and letting creativity lead the way. The most exciting part is watching these new techniques evolve, especially when they start to blend with my established work in textile and colour art.
This summer has been all about that – experimentation, exploration, and creation. I’ve spent the last few months immersing myself in ceramics, painting, and most importantly, marbling. Each of these mediums offers something unique, but what ties them together is the joy of discovering how materials and processes interact. With marbling, I’ve found a special kind of magic that truly speaks to my love for spontaneity and pattern.
For those of you unfamiliar with marbling, it’s a fascinating technique that involves floating paint or ink on the surface of water or a thickened solution, allowing it to swirl, move, and interact in unpredictable ways. There’s an almost meditative quality to it – watching colours dance and merge, waiting for that perfect moment when everything aligns and the pattern feels ‘just right.’ At that point, I capture the design by transferring it onto paper or fabric, preserving that fleeting beauty forever.
I can tell you without hesitation that these last few months have been incredibly rewarding and so much fun. There’s something captivating about surrendering to the unpredictability of marbling. The process itself feels like a collaboration between me and the materials – a delicate balance of control and spontaneity. Sometimes the colours move in ways I hadn’t anticipated, creating forms and lines that surprise and delight me. Other times, they settle into patterns that feel like they were meant to be. It’s a perfect metaphor for my approach to art: letting go and embracing what happens in the moment.

As I prepare to launch my small marbling art collection tomorrow, I wanted to share a glimpse into my process. There’s so much joy in working with colour, in watching it move and flow on the surface until something truly special emerges. The act of creating marbled art feels like a dance – the colours leading, and me following closely behind, waiting for that perfect moment to capture what’s happening in front of me.
This collection feels like a natural evolution of my work, and I’m thrilled to finally be able to share it with all of you. The pieces are vibrant, playful, and full of life – each one telling its own story of movement and spontaneity. They represent hours of experimentation, moments of pure creative flow, and a deep love for the unexpected beauty that comes from trying something new.

As I step into this next phase of my art practice, I feel a renewed sense of excitement and curiosity. Marbling has opened up so many possibilities for me, not just in terms of technique but also in the way I think about art as a whole. It has reminded me that creativity is a journey, not a destination – one that is constantly evolving and expanding.
