Gone is the time of old looking embroidery our grandma used to stitch! Flower designs can look modern and fun too, as long as you use the right combination of scale, shapes and colours for your chosen project.
Here i have gathered up a beautiful selection of Flower Embroideries from inspiring artists/designers to get your creative juices flowing and spark your own ideas of contemporary flower designs. If you are not sure where to start, it's always nice to have the freedom to experiment, pick up a hoop with your favourite fabric and try different yarns, from wool, cotton, metallics and silk and play around with shapes, colours and scale. You can even think of other materials to use that could add interest to your design, maybe you can paint, add beads or materials that can add texture to the surface.
Our creativity suffers only when we don't let ourselves go of expectations, or when we hold a belief of not being good enough. The first step is not to copy other people's work and ideas but to use a little inspiration, gather and develop these ideas and make them your own! So if you love flower embroidery but want to create something unique and beautiful don't be scared to open your mind to ideas and have fun with it. Look also in nature or flowers in art, design and different mediums that inspire you. I enjoy looking into different cultures and how they have used what interests me in the past, mixing the old with the new always brings an interesting result. But as i said don't forget to allow time to play and have fun!
